Storm exposure is the defining factor

Round Rock sits where storms coming across the plains still have plenty of energy, and the hail history here reflects that. Some years bring nothing. Other years bring an event that touches thousands of roofs in an afternoon.

After a storm like that this area fills with out of town contractors working door to door. Some are fine. Many are here for one season, and the warranty they hand you is only as good as the company still existing when you need it. We are based two hours south and we were here before the storm.

A wider spread of roof ages than the neighbors

Round Rock has been growing for longer than Cedar Park, so the housing is more mixed. There is genuinely old stock near the original downtown, a large amount from the nineties and two thousands, and new construction still going in on the edges.

That mix means we are doing different work on the same day. A replacement on a nineties house whose roof is simply finished, a repair on a newer home where one detail was done poorly, and storm documentation on a street that just took hail. It also means there is no single answer to what a roof costs here, and anyone quoting you over the phone without seeing it is guessing.

The wind exposure deserves its own mention. Open ground on the north and east sides of town means gusts hit roofs without much to slow them down, and wind damage tends to show up along ridges and rakes first, where the shingles have the least holding them down.
